We are a small evangelical church and part of the United Free Church of Scotland. We worship in Kinloch Street, Carnoustie, and whilst we have a traditional heritage we are involved in a reshaping for mission initiative which means we are changing! Our motivation for this is simply that our inherited way of doing ‘church’ is simply not working. Our culture and community has changed quite dramatically in the last few decades, just as it has everywhere in Scotland, and the church has become largely disconnected from the community around us. That is, in our minds, a tragedy because Jesus is described as not just Lord and Saviour but as the source of all knowledge, wisdom, love, peace, joy, and healing (amongst many other positive things) which collectively are called salvation by the Bible.
We recognise that large parts of our culture consider ‘old things’ to be of little value, because it is used to constant upgrades – Our minister tells us that he has an iPhone 5 and his grandchildren keep telling him he should get an upgrade! He tells them that he will in due course, but whilst much today does need to be kept up to date the Christian gospel is still as fresh and relevant as when it was first preached. The reason being that each new generation is born with the same issues and tendencies which only the gospel can really deal with. So as a church we are in the process of upgrading certain things to make it easier for folk to connect with us, and us with them, but some old truths we hold on to and delight in – Jesus said that everyone needed to be born again to see the Kingdom of God, and our mission is to do our best to explain what he meant and to live it out. If you would like to come along and find out more, or to help us on our mission, you would be most welcome.
We are a small friendly congregation but we are growing and we would be delighted if you would like to join us for worship on Sunday at 10.00am, and then perhaps stay and work with us on our mission. You will find our worship fairly traditional but we are moving towards a more contemporary/informal style which is more family and visitor friendly. We hope you will find the web site helpful in finding out about us, our various activities, as well as our plans for the future. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
